Meet the hosts
Dr. Elizabeth Bobeck
Dr. Elizabeth Bobeck has received her PhD from UW-Madison and two Post-doctoral positions in nutrition and immunology. She joined the Iowa State University Animal Science Faculty in January 2016, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. She has mentored students, published a vast number of articles, and her research and teaching efforts focus on the poultry industry from different angles with the same intent: to use nutrition to improve poultry health, productivity, and welfare. She strives to solve current industry issues and anticipate future industry needs using unique approaches.
Dr. Karen Grogan
Dr. Karen Grogan received her undergraduate degree and DVM from North Carolina State University, and completed the MAM at the University of Georgia after deciding poultry medicine would be her focus. She held numerous veterinary positions in the poultry industry – including roles in technical service and consulting. But the call of academia and service to the GA poultry industry has prompted her to return full-time as a Clinical Associate Professor at PDRC in 2017. She currently serves as Graduate Coordinator for the MAM and MAHM programs, too.
Dr. Kate Meloche
Dr. Kate Meloche earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Poultry Nutrition at Auburn University, and throughout her trajectory in the academic world, she received several awards and honors. She has also worked as a production nutritionist and a director of nutrition, and in 2021, Kate founded Social Chicken, LLC (McDonough, GA; USA). She works as an independent contractor, continuing to provide creative poultry nutrition consulting for commercial poultry producers, academic institutions, and allied industry.
Meet the founder
Dr. Marcio Goncalves
Dr. Marcio Goncalves earned his veterinary degree from UFRGS, a top university in Brazil, and his PhD in applied swine nutrition from Kansas State University and worked as Global Nutritionist for one of the major swine genetic companies where he led nutrient requirement updates, diet formulation & feeding program for nucleus farms, development of nutritional economic models, and reviewing diets from over 100 customers. Currently, he is the founder of Swine it, an education platform.
He has over 15 years of experience in swine production with exposure to over 20 countries and 120 research studies in pig nutrition/production and his life purpose is to create a positive impact in the world through knowledge dissemination in the global swine industry.
